This Pinot Noir Réserve wine spends 10 months in hand-selected oak barrels because we believe oak presents each vintage in the best way possible. It then spends the next 15 months finding itself in the bottle. Although a heartbreak grape, this wine deserves our dedication.

Haute Collection Amphora Pinot Noir

A tiny block! Only 0.8 hectares and triangular in shape. This wine is a display of nature at its best.

High density planting of 1m x 1m means the bunches are small, the berries equally so and the intensity of fruit and flavour rather phenomenal. A low yield but worth every drop. Complex with new oak, not only adding an outstanding platform to showcase vintage but adding structure to ensure this wine impresses with each sip.

Haute Cabrière is better known for its whites than reds, but this single vineyard release from a 0.8-hectare parcel planted in 1991 might change that. Fermented with 10% whole clusters and aged in 30% new wood, it has alluring dried rose petal and ginger aromas, goji berry and wild strawberry fruit and savoury tannins. 2022-28

The wine shows aromas of bright red fruits and dried naartjie zest, with underlying herbal and cinnamon bark tones. In the mouth it is finely balanced showing good acidity and fine tannins, these being balanced out by generous red fruit and citrus zest. The finish is satisfyingly dry with a touch of spice and earthiness.
