86% Syrah, 14% Mourvèdre A blend of three Syrah parcels fermented separately, blended & aged for 22 months in barrel. • Steepside Syrah: growing on a North facing slope in deep, red clay rich soils; this vineyard generally produces powerful and full-bodied wines with rich, spicy flavours. • Topside Syrah: an unirrigated West facing vineyard planted at 350m above sea level on rocky sandstone-based soil, more aromatic with good structure and natural acidity. • Sweetwater Syrah: situated in a rocky valley, this is the coolest of the three Syrah sites and ripens the latest; leaning towards a lighter elegance with herbaceous aromas.

Given the quality of its three single vineyard releases, it's no surprise that this blended Syrah, which uses fruit from all three sites, is so good. Aged in seasoned French oak, this is all about perfume and intensity, with notes of fynbos, liquorice, incense and black fig, serious tannins and the concentration to age. 2023-30

90% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc, 4% Malbec Homestead is a block of fruit with rich alluvial soils. This wine is a deep royal red colour. Beautiful dusty, ripe strawberry fruit nose with notes of dried herbs, cigar box and cinnamon. The palate is soft, but clean and elegant. The wine exudes flavours of ripe red fruit with undertones of orange rind and dried herbs. Soft chalky tannins and good natural acidity help to maintain a fresh elegance and a long, succulent dry finish.

Priced above the single vineyard Syrahs - that's the lure of Bordeaux for you - this is a Cabernet Sauvignon dominated assemblage, with 71% Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Earlier picked for freshness in 2016, it has alluring graphite and green salad aromas, fine, scented oak and impressive underlying structure. 2024-30
